What to Expect at a Slideways Drift Event – Clinics, Fun Runs & Tandems

Drifting is one of the most exciting motorsports out there, but it can also be intimidating for newcomers. Whether you’re bringing your first drift car out or you’re a seasoned driver looking for a laid-back weekend of sliding with friends, Slideways Showdown Drift Events offer something for everyone. Our events focus on seat time, skill building, and having fun — with a mix of drift clinics, open fun runs, and close-proximity tandems for those ready to get door-to-door.

Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect at a Slideways Drift Event — whether you’re attending at Painesville Speedway or Lorain Raceway Park.

Slideways Culture – Fun First, Always

The foundation of Slideways Showdown is community and fun. We welcome drivers of all skill levels — from first-timers to seasoned locals — to come out and enjoy:

  • A welcoming atmosphere where everyone helps each other.
  • Plenty of seat time — this isn’t a “wait all day for 2 laps” type of event.
  • Low-pressure environment with no points, no podiums — just great driving.

If you’re tired of overly structured drift competitions and just want to drive, learn, and hang with other car enthusiasts, Slideways is the place for you.

Types of Slideways Drift Events

1. Drift Clinics – Learn from Experienced Drivers

Our Drift Clinics are designed for:

  • First-time drifters learning the basics.
  • Drivers looking to refine specific techniques (entries, transitions, throttle control).
  • Anyone wanting personalized, hands-on instruction from experienced drivers.

Clinics typically include:

  • Car setup tips.
  • Drift theory explained (how weight transfer, grip, and slip work together).
  • Hands-on driving drills, including donuts, figure 8’s, and entry practice.
  • One-on-one coaching during open track sessions.

2. Two-Day Fun Runs – Maximum Seat Time

The heart of Slideways Showdown is our two-day drift festivals at Painesville Speedway. These events offer:

  • Open track time for all skill levels.
  • Relaxed vibe where you can practice at your own pace.
  • Opportunities for tandem practice for drivers who pass a safety check.
  • Camping included with two-day passes, turning the event into a true weekend getaway.

3. Tandem Practice – Get Close, Stay Safe

If you’re comfortable with solo runs and want to practice driving door-to-door, Slideways Showdown events are perfect for you. Tandem sessions follow:

  • Driver briefings to discuss etiquette and safety.
  • Pre-tandem tech checks to ensure your car is safe for close driving.
  • Lots of seat time to practice proximity driving with friends.

This is where drivers truly build trust and skills, and why Slideways is one of Ohio’s favorite grassroots drift organizations.

 Track-Specific Experiences

Painesville Speedway – Tight & Technical

  • Small oval track with fast entries and tight clipping points.
  • Perfect for practicing transitions and high-speed initiations.
  • Great for spectators — the entire track is visible from the grandstands.

Lorain Raceway Park – Open & Forgiving

  • Wider layout with room for beginner-friendly entries.
  • Plenty of space to practice big transitions.
  • Home of our Drift Clinics — the ideal learning environment.
